My name is Laura Baker, and I am so thrilled to be the new full-time counselor at Richland Elementary! While Mr. Potter has moved over to Richland Jr./Sr. High School full-time, we will continue to collaborate together to ensure a smooth transition for the beginning of the school year and beyond. I cannot wait to grow into and be a part of this wonderful community.
First, I wanted to take a moment to tell you a few things about me. I grew up in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, about three hours north of the Twin Cities. I moved to Fargo-Moorhead in 2012 and received my Bachelor’s Degree in 2016.
This last May, I graduated from Minnesota State University Moorhead with my Master’s in Counseling, with an emphasis in School Counseling. I completed full-time internships at Lewis and Clark Elementary in Fargo, ND, and at Ada-Borup High School, in Ada, MN. Before graduation, I was a long-term school counselor substitute at Kennedy Elementary in Fargo, ND, where I was able to take all that I learned from graduate school into practice. In the midst of my free time, you might find me traveling, watching Parks and Recreation on Netflix, or spending time with my boyfriend Jack and our cat August.
This will be my first full year as a School Counselor, and I consider myself to be so lucky to have the opportunity to do what I love – help students be successful in all areas of their lives!
My goal is to provide a positive and empowering environment so each and every student has the necessary tools to succeed academically and individually. I believe there is power in establishing curative relationships with students that fosters change and success.
My primary role as a School Counselor is to promote the academic, personal, and social development of all students. I look forward to offering support to the students, staff, families and community. I plan on working with students at the classroom level, small group level, as well as at the short-term individual counseling level. I will also be meeting with parents, collaborating with teachers and staff, and consulting with community organizations to benefit and meet the needs of all Richland #44 students.
Please feel free to contact me at the email below with any questions or concerns. I am looking forward to getting to know you and your child! I am so incredibly excited to be here at Richland Elementary.
